The cornerstone of our addiction treatment program in Thousand Oaks is lead by one of Grata’s owners, executive director and best selling author Dr. Laurence Heller, and his revolutionary trauma treatment modality NARM. After feeling that most treatment centers were not fully meeting their clients needs, Dr. Heller teamed up with our clinical director and addiction/trauma expert James McNinch,LCSW to create our exclusive treatment modality NARM-AF, which takes Dr. Heller’s NARM modality and expands on it with a focus on addiction. At Grata House rehab center in Thousand Oaks, CA, we believe in not only treating the addiction but also in treating the underlying trauma that led to the addiction.

Grata’s mission is to re-imagine the treatment of trauma, substance dependence, and other co-occurring states of being by fusing the latest evidence-based developmental trauma treatments and impulse behavioral systems of treatment to focus all efforts on building proven, measurable, effective treatment outcomes that surpass our peers and reshape the narrative of what it means to recover.

I’m one-on-one with my Primary Therapist. I was terrified coming into treatment, but now I’m experiencing hope due to the compassion my therapist has shown me.

Being witnessed without judgment and being given the support and tools to be effective in maintaining abstinence is something I’m open to for the first time.

I choose to journal as I stay at Grata House. I take a quick break in my private room to add an entry after seeing my Primary Therapist.

Although some days I may just opt for a cup of coffee during this time.
